Ladies and Gentlemen of the Press,

A few weeks ago, the National Christian Elders Forum (NCEF) issued a statement titled THE NEED TO PRESERVE THE PEACE AND UNITY OF NIGERIA. Of concern to the Christian Elders is the deteriorating state of national security, the free fall state of the economy, the inflammation of religious tension through the misappropriation of state powers, a worrisome foreign policy that is evidently skewed in favor of Islamization, as well as the increasing impunity of the Fulani herdsmen, amongst many other issues.

I have attached some very controversial portions of the curriculum as it relates to religion. It is rather unfortunate that this curriculum was approved by President Goodluck Jonathan's Administration who is supposed to be a Christian from the South South when Prof Mrs Ruqayyatu Ahmed Rufa'i was Minister of Education.

In view of the various challenges confronting the Church in particular, and the nation in general, it was deemed expedient that Christian Elders, nationwide, should be summoned to give counsel and direction in this crucial season.

The National Christian Elders Forum was inaugurated on 15th January, 2015 by the President of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, and it held a two-day Retreat in Abuja on 5th and 6th February. All the Christian blocs in Nigeria were represented at the Retreat.

At the end of the Retreat, the Elders Forum released the Communiqué below.

RE: “CATHOLIC BISHOP CHIDES ORITSEJAFOR”: A MISREPRESENTATION OF ARCHBISHOP IGNATIUS AYAU KAIGAMA

Our attention has been drawn to the reports in some online  editions of some newspapers such as the Daily Post, Daily Trust,  New Telegraph and the Guardian  with misleading headlines, posted  on Thursday 25th September 2014,  and suggesting that Most Rev. Ignatius Ayau Kaigama,

The Christian genocide taking place in the Middle East currently has reached alarming levels. Last week, the jihadist terrorist group ISIS, which means the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria – although it is unrecognized as a nation – took over Qaraqosh, the largest Christian town in Iraq, warning Christians to “leave, convert or die.”
