1. The takeover agenda

The takeover agenda of the Benue valley and the entire Nigeria nation by the Fulani has been there since the time of Othman Dan Fodio. They did not succeed through war, so they fight now through politics and cattle business. The expansionist drive is embedded in their major religion, politics, and their everyday life. They understand their game and are good at it. Unfortunately, most of even our educated folks in the Benue valley seem not to fully understand their plan.

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Thursday stated that the letter reportedly endorsing the Governor of Ekiti State,  Ayo Fayose, for the 2019 presidential election by Rev Dr. Musa Asake, was done in his personal capacity and not as its General Secretary.

Since the letter was leaked to the media, for whatever reasons, some prominent Christian stakeholders have been making calls to CAN President, His Eminence, Rev Dr Samson Olasupo Ayokunle, asking for the clarifications since there was never a time the matter was discussed by the leadership of the Association. Hence the need for this statement.

On 6th September, 2017, the National Christian Elders Forum (NCEF) asked the Islamists in Nigeria the questions below. Till today, no Islamist leader or organization has provided an answer to any of the questions.

The NCEF wishes to remind Nigerians that there is a maximum difference between Muslims and Islamists. Many Muslims practice Islam as religion while the doctrine of Islam espoused by the Islamists is essentially a doctrine of hate. To many Muslims, adherence to Islam as religion is of paramount importance, whereas Islamists practice Islam as “political ideology”. This is why Islamism is called “political Islam”. Islamism is the ideology of ISIS, Boko Haram, Taliban, Al Qaeda, Al Shabab, Hamas, Fulani herdsmen, and all the other Islamic terrorist organizations worldwide. Islamists in Nigeria are responsible for the religious tension and intolerance in the country which has resulted in gross violation of the Constitution, abuse of human rights, injustice, inequality and unfairness in governance.

Renowned theologian, Professor Yusufu Turaki, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to implement the recommendations of the 2014 National Conference if he sincerely wanted to address the ills in the land. In his Sunday sermon at the Interdenominational Church Service to mark the anniversary of Nigeria at 57, Turaki argued that the 2014 Confab Report is the panacea to the country’s problems.

The National Christian Elders Forum (NCEF) has noted the Press Release of the Nigerian Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs objecting to the statement of CAN on Sukkuk Bond in the country. While we share the concern of all well-meaning citizens of Nigeria that peace and mutual tolerance must be maintained, we cannot close our eyes to egregious infractions on the Constitution and the advent of religious extremism and insurgency in the country, of which the Christian community seems to be the prime target, while Islamic religious extremists are the antagonists.

Once again, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) is compelled to raise a petition and protest against the unrelenting plan of the Federal Government of Nigeria to introduce Islamic financing into a secular state in violation of Section 10 of the Constitution.

According to this section in the Constitution, the Nigerian State is Secular and Government is expected to be neutral on issues involving religion. By promoting a sectional religious financial policy, the Government is violating both the spirit and the letter of Section 10 of the Constitution.
